Training Event Overview
The Summit Ridge Fire is a virtual wildfire training scenario hosted by VAFFU, taking place on December 14, 2024, at 2300Z (4:00 PM MST) in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, California. The event simulates a 2,000-acre wildfire in rugged terrain, requiring aerial firefighting operations and coordination.
A VAFFU member will staff Air Attack, overseeing operations and directing resources, while participating VSOAs will contribute helicopters and cargo aircraft equipped with MAFFS systems. Dispatchers from North America Dispatch and Incident Command will manage data collection, fire behavior, and resource allocation, implementing strategies to contain the fire. VATSIM controllers will manage the Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR), ensuring safe and efficient airspace operations.
The 7-hour event is divided into phases, including reconnaissance, initial containment, addressing secondary fire fronts, and final suppression.
