TRAINING
In order to meet VATSIM vSOA basic training requirements, all members must have the following minimum training:

Complete the VATSIM Pilot Resource Center (PRC) course material on General Lessons and VATSIM basics.

One hour of aircraft familiarization in VFR conditions verifying that a pilot can maintain control of an aircraft.

Two hours of navigation exercises involving the use of one or more of the following: VOR/NDB/DME/GPS radio systems in VFR conditions.

Three hours of navigation exercises involving the use of the following: VOR/NDB/DME/GPS radio systems in IFR conditions to include completing precision and non- precision approaches (VOR, DME, GPS, TACAN, ASR/PAR, & ILS).

Four hours of advanced online flight training experience in utilizing aircraft for their designed purpose, such as, type I, II, and III air tankers, VLATs, helicopters, and Air Attack/Lead Planes.

Four hours of Fire Traffic Area (operations) to demonstrate proficiency in both on scene and dispatch communications, tanker to tanker communications, and coordination with air attack and or lead planes. The final of these four hours will take the form of a final exam to demonstrate skill and competence in all required actions to maneuver in and around the FTA during a real fire event.
