 TRAINING 

In order to meet VATSIM vSOA basic training requirements, all members must have the following minimum training:

**PILOTS JOINING FROM ANOTHER VSOA MAY SKIP PRE TRAINING REQS & BEGIN AT THE BTP FTA TRAINING**

​

  1. Complete the VATSIM Pilot Resource Center (PRC) course material on General Lessons and VATSIM basics.

  2. 6 hours of aircraft familiarization to include:

    1. 3 hours of navigation exercises involving the use of one or more of the following: VOR/NDB/DME/GPS radio systems in VFR conditions.

    2. 3 hours of navigation exercises involving the use of the following: VOR/NDB/DME/GPS radio systems in IFR conditions to include completing precision and non-precision approaches (VOR, DME, GPS, TACAN, ASR/PAR, & ILS).

 

Once completing the pre training requirements pilots will move on to our Basic Tanker Pilot Training​

  1. BTP CTP Completed

  2. Schedule a Training Session with an Instructor

  3. ONLINE Fire Traffic Area (operations) to demonstrate proficiency in both on scene and dispatch communications, tanker to tanker communications, and coordination with air attack and or lead planes. In this training you will complete the following drops to proficiency at the discretion of the Instructor.

    1. Normal Controlled FTA Drop "With Multiple Tankers if Able"​

    2. Lead In Operations

    3. Uncontrolled or No Contact with Air Attack "Solo Drop Operation"

  4. ADDON ROLES

    1. SCOOPERS​

    2. FIRE MAPPING

 

Once completing the Basic Tanker Pilot Rating requirements pilots will move on to our Basic Heli Pilot Training​

  1. BHP CTP Completed

  2. Schedule a Training Session with an Instructor

  3. ONLINE Fire Traffic Area (operations) to demonstrate proficiency in both on scene and dispatch communications, tanker to tanker communications, and coordination with air attack and or lead planes. In this training you will complete the following objectives to proficiency at the discretion of the Instructor.

    1. Crew Drop Off & Pick Up

    2. Fire Suppression "Dips and Drops"

    3. Multi Traffic Sequence "Including Coordinating Checkpoints"

    4. Special Mission Flights within the FTA 

 

Once completing the Basic Heli Pilot Rating requirements pilots will move on to our Air Attack Training​

  1. ARAT CTP Completed

  2. Schedule a Training Session with an Instructor

  3. ONLINE Fire Traffic Area (operations) to demonstrate proficiency in both on scene and dispatch communications, Air Attack to Tanker communications, and coordination with air attack and or lead planes.  In this training you will complete the following objectives to proficiency at the discretion of the Instructor.

    1. ARAT Smoke Check "Including Fire Target Description & Mapping" 

    2. ARAT ATC FTA Setup

    3. ARAT FTA Communications

    4. Resource Sequencing 

    5. ARAT to Dispatch Communications

    6. ARAT & DISPATCH COMBINED ROLE​

  4. ADDON ROLES

    1. HELITACK OPERATIONS​

    2. COMBINED LEAD AND ARAT ROLE
